Philippines' cigarette warnings
On May 24, 2010, the Philippines Department of Health
announced the drafting of requirements for graphic
health warning on tobacco packaging that included
graphic health warnings. The warnings must occupy 30% of
the top-front of the package and 60% of the top-back of
the package.
The order requires eight warnings in rotation for a
period of 24 months, and provides for the Department of
Health to issue new warnings every 2 years.
The warnings were to be in place 90 days after the
publication of the order (i.e. by end of August, 2010).
However, by the summer of 2011, the tobacco companies
had successfully requested a court injunction, and the
future of the measure was in doubt.
