Good news: a regulatory proposal to ban menthol across Canada.

Physicians for a Smoke-Free Canada congratulates the Minister of Health, for initiating a regulatory change which would remove menthol from cigarettes, blunt wraps and most cigars.

"We are delighted to see the federal government proposal to strengthen and expand provincial regulations banning menthol. A pan-Canadian problem needs a pan-Canadian response." said PSC's executive Director, Cynthia Callard.

Six provinces have already adopted legislation to ban menthol, and the world's first menthol ban was implemented a year ago in Nova Scotia.

"Tobacco companies responded by filing lawsuits and introducing new forms of menthol cigarettes. It is very reassuring to see the federal health ministry respond so firmly to these wrongful actions by proposing stronger regulation," said Callard.
